Welcome to Practo,  a small hole in the teeth may be dental caries causing cavity, this cavity can be treated with the restoration or or root canal treatment but as it causes pain root canal treatment will be the definit treatment plan, for pain I advise you to take pain killers twice a day for 2 days and when I go for root canal treatment avoid eating that side, do soft brushing, consult me for further details thank you.

Hole is definitely cavity. If its sensitive on taking hot and cold food it my be treated by getting filling done. But if it pains on chewing than it means there is infection n you need to visit dentist.Depth of cavity can be determined by Xray and than treatment can be decided. Hole will entrap food and so cavity will progress fast. Visit a dentist as soon as possible.

Hello If the cavity is giving you sensitivity to cold food or beverages or sweets but you’re fine otherwise then a simple filling should do the job. But if there is pain and swelling and discomfort on lying down or at night you may need to get a thorough consultation to check if it is a deep cavity . ( that may need a root canal treatment ) But from what you have mentioned seems like a small one. Sharing a picture will be of help Regards

Hello Dental cavity is of nature which looks like a small hole from outside but it is progressive inside the tooth and the mere fact that you are feeling pain in that tooth while eating food clearly indicates that the cavity is progressing inside and has probably reached very close to the nerve. Just visit your dentist, get an x-ray done that would decide whether a filling can be done for it or it will go for root canal treatment. It is something that cannot be cured by you at home, you will have to get professional dental treatment for the same
Next Steps
Kindly visit your nearby dentist and get a proper examination done

If you have a cavity in your tooth and you are feeling pain or sensitivity, this means the cavity is either already reached to the pulp tissue or this has reached close to the pulp, in these cases you need to consult doctor who will examine your tooth and seggest you either filling or root canal treatment depending upon depth of the cavity.
