Can stress harm fetus
Im 20 weeks pregnant i had severe anxiety and stress due to personal issues in my  second trimester. Now im feeling better. I had racing heartbeat, insomnia, tense muscles and lack of appetite. But as per latest reports baby is fine. Will my stress or anxiety cause mental illness in baby after birth or in future?

The best way is instead of worrying about what might happen you should proactively seek psychological counseling,  do deep breathing for relaxation and consult a doctor for medication. Homoeopathy helps in anxiety and its safe to be taken during pregnancy. You can consult me via practo if you wish to take Homoeopathy. Wish you the best.

Constant anxiety and stress is harmful to foetus as it changes cortisol levels in mother so there is effect on baby as well as per some studies but getting mental illness later on depends on multiple factor’s interaction among each other.
Next Steps
Try relaxation techniques. And visit psychiatrist as well as obgy doctor.

Stress and anxiety can increase cortisol levels in mother and harm fetus. It cant be found in ultrasound scan and which finds only structural deformities. Consult a psychiatrist and get your anxiety and stress treated. Good luck

This is very hard to answer. There has been studies that highlights that a mother in stress has some impact on the foetus. But frank mental illnesses have not been reported consistently in the various studies. What impact it will have on your baby is hard to say now and even later. It can create vulnerabilities for illness but it is not guaranteed that your baby will have an illness in future. There are many factors at play when a mental illness surfaces in a person. Some symptoms are there in every one but it is called mental illness only if there is significant amount of dysfunction in their daily life. If the home environment post delivery is good and supportive and the child is given good balanced care they will most likely grow up to be confident and healthy individuals. So my advise will be to not worry and prepare your self for good parenting. May be read some books about parenting and how to have balanced approach when raising a child. Have a nice day.
