It can be because of cramp, dehydration, weak muscles, Muscle strain etc. It can be caused by Overuse of a muscle, dehydration, muscle strain or simply holding a position for a prolonged period
First, stop doing whatever triggered the muscle spasm then:
Gently stretch and massage the spasmodic muscle.
Hold it in a stretched position until the spasms stop.
Apply cold to sore/tender muscles or heat to tense/tight muscles.
Drink plenty of water every day to stay hydrated.
Do regular flexibility exercises before and after you work out.
