Hello sir !
As per your description , there seems to be a piece of root visible in the oral cavity. Ideally root stumps need to be extracted or else they might get infected.
But keeping in mind the age , medical condition and the need to replace teeth , the root stump can be left in the mouth.
The prosthesis /denture can be fabricated over it as it preserves the bone , if at all there is need for it. This can only be done by clinical examination and x-ray of the root stump .
Next Steps
Get clinical examination done , followed by required x-ray .
Get it extracted, or else when it will be infected she needs to undergo medication.
Infected teeth can cause severe pain

Hi
You should get it removed and replace it by a new prosthesis. Retained root stumps often gets infected and can infect the other tooth as well. Also the adjacent tooth tends to bend towards the missing side and will affect the occlusion.
