My son has been having dental braces treatment for the last three months. He is not cleaning his teeth properly. Now we are worried about his teeth health. Can we give him an electric toothbrush for regular brush teeth with braces? If yes please suggest any good product. His Father, Viren

Hello sir , Giving electric brush to your child is not the solution it can cause more difficulties to the child such as loosening of brackets.

Hello Sir Cleaning teeth and maintaining good oral hygiene with dental braces is essential to prevent issues like plaque buildup, cavities, and gum disease. Here are some tips for cleaning teeth with braces: 1. Brushing: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth after every meal and before bed. Angle the brush towards the gum line and gently brush in small circular motions, ensuring that you clean around the brackets and wires thoroughly. 2. Interdental Brushes or Floss Threaders: Use interdental brushes or floss threaders to clean between the teeth and under the wires. This helps remove food particles and plaque from areas that are difficult to reach with a regular toothbrush. 3. Flossing: Thread dental floss under the wire of each tooth and gently floss between the teeth. You can also use a floss threader or a water flosser to clean between the teeth and around the braces. 4. Rinsing: Rinse your mouth with water or an antiseptic mouthwash to help dislodge food particles and bacteria. 5. Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods: Avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that can damage your braces or get stuck in them, leading to plaque buildup and tooth decay. 6. Regular Dental Check-ups: Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings to ensure that your teeth and gums remain healthy throughout your orthodontic treatment. As for electric toothbrushes, while some orthodontists may recommend them for patients with braces, others may advise against it due to concerns about the brushes damaging the brackets or wires. Electric toothbrushes with rotating or oscillating heads can sometimes be too abrasive and may cause the brackets to loosen or come off prematurely. However, there are electric toothbrushes specifically designed for use with braces, so it's best to consult with your orthodontist to determine if an electric toothbrush is suitable for you and which type would be best for your specific situation.

Electric toothbrush is not the solution. Ask ur son to maintain oral hygiene. It's not easy for a child to brush who is undergoing ortho treatment so u can also help him in doing regular brushing.

Hi, Please explain to your son the importance of brushing his teeth properly. Giving an electric toothbrush is not advisable during orthodontic treatment as it may loosen the brackets.
