Doctor, I am here because I am very concerned about extreme shifts in mood and behavior.
She is 56 years old.
She is going through very fast, intense cycles that change every 3 to 4 days.
Phase 1 (Lasts 3-4 days): She becomes unusually happy and has an abnormal amount of energy. She talks constantly and very fast about completely unnecessary things. This isn't her normal personality.
Phase 2 (Lasts 3-4 days): Then, almost abruptly, her mood flips. She becomes intensely angry and highly irritable. She speaks very rudely to everyone around her. During this time, she completely withdraws and refuses to do any of her normal daily work or tasks.
This 3-to-4-day cycle keeps repeating. It is severely affecting her daily functioning and her relationships with everyone.

More likely emotionally unstable personality disorder, depends on various other factors too. Do consult a psychiatrist, if needed psychological assessments may be needed to arrive at the condition and then plan treatment
Thank you for sharing this — I can hear how worried you are.
What you’re describing, intense 3–4 day cycles of unusual happiness and pressured speech flipping abruptly into anger, irritability and complete withdrawal, repeating predictably, is a pattern we take seriously. This needs a proper psychiatric evaluation.
At 56, we’d also want to rule out thyroid issues, or other medical contributors alongside a mood disorder assessment.
The reassuring part — this is treatable. These cycles don’t have to keep disrupting her life.
Would you like to book a consultation so we can evaluate her properly and get her the right help?
The symptoms you describe suggest a significant mood disorder and require a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.
Periods of unusually elevated mood, increased energy, excessive talking, and behavior that is out of character may represent hypomanic or manic symptoms.
The alternating phases of severe irritability, anger, social withdrawal, and inability to perform daily activities indicate substantial impairment in functioning.
Although bipolar spectrum disorders are a possibility, mood changes beginning at 56 years of age also warrant assessment for medical, neurological, hormonal, or medication-related causes.
I strongly recommend a psychiatrist consultation as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can significantly improve symptoms, functioning, and quality of life.

Likely Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder with alternating hypomanic/manic symptoms (excessive happiness, increased energy, overtalkativeness) and irritable/depressive phases causing significant dysfunction. However, due to the unusually short 3–4 day cycles and onset at 56 years, medical and neurological causes should also be ruled out before confirming the diagnosis.
