Anxiety is a normal human emotion of feeling uncomfortable because of a potential harm. However, if a person starts feeling anxious disproportionate to the potential harm, it becomes a disorder.
For example, if a person starts avoiding routine conversation because of anxiety of being negatively evaluated by others, it becomes social anxiety disorder.
If a person feels too scared to face a harmless situation (say a lizard in the corner of a room), it is called a phobia.
Some people have bouts intense anxiety in which they feel that they are losing control over the body or are dying. This is called panic.
