I am not sure if what I feel are anxiety or panic attacks in reality since both these words are highly commercialized now. However, I do not know how else to describe it. There are times when my mind won't stop running and there are just too many things in my mind at that point of time. And I feel helpless and I can't stop crying or stop my mind. It takes me a good 1 to one and a half hours to calm myself down. I wish to know how to prevent this from happening in the future. These bouts are sudden and I feel usually aren't related to a specific thing.

Hi... The solution is very simple and same around the world, but in India it is hard to provide people with simple solutions.
What you're experiencing are panic attacks. They usually occur without any specific triggers. The cause varies from case to case. Sometimes it is purely psychosocial, in such cases, Counselling alone works well.
In some cases the root is more biological or genetic in nature. In such cases, Counselling along with Medication is required.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychologist.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is required.
