It is normal to negative feelings such as sadness, hurt or frustration when a relationship ends but getting depressed, angry, anxious or excessively traumatized is not considered normal. You can seek therapy or counseling to over come these feelings even if you are not clinically diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder or Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Childhood experiences, know as 'distal cause', do shape our personality and our belief system and how we react to situations later in life. Sometimes childhood experiences are so traumatic that they cause distress later in life and they need to be resolved. There are certain techniques which can help you overcome these traumatic memories. Psychoanalytic and protective techniques such as Thematic Apperception Test and Rorschach Inkblot Tests could help to know the deep rooted underlying thoughts and emotions. It is better to consult a clinical psychologist for a detailed evaluation.
Next Steps
