Mumps is a viral infection, and there is no specific antiviral treatment for it.
Next Steps
However, you can manage symptoms and provide relief with supportive care: 1. Pain and Fever Relief: • Over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen can help reduce fever and relieve pain. Ensure you use age-appropriate doses for your daughter. 2. Hydration: • Encourage her to drink plenty of fluids, as dehydration can worsen symptoms. 3. Soft Diet: • Provide soft, easy-to-chew foods that don’t require much jaw movement, as swelling of the salivary glands can make chewing painful. 4. Cold Compress: • Applying a cold or warm compress to the swollen areas can help ease discomfort. 5. Rest: • Adequate rest is essential for recovery from mumps.
Health Tips
If the swelling is severe, or if she experiences complications such as difficulty breathing or swallowing, testicular pain (in older children), or any neurological symptoms, it’s important to consult a doctor immediately.

There’s no specific treatment for mumps. 😷 The disease must run its course and usually goes away on its own within a couple of weeks. 📅 Mumps treatment focuses on alleviating your child’s symptoms to make them as comfortable as possible. 😊 The following steps can help manage symptoms: Drink plenty of fluids. 🥤 Gargle warm salt water. 🧂 Eat soft, easy-to-chew foods. 🍲 Avoid acidic foods that make your mouth water. 😖 Suck on an ice pop to soothe a sore throat. 🧊 Place ice or heat packs on swollen glands. 🤕 Take non-aspirin medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen to reduce fever and help with pain. 💊
Health Tips
Kindly refrain from administering aspirin, as it carries the potential to induce Reyes syndrome.
