Please consult a super specialist who is into substance abuse only as his or her specialization. They would know the best there is a good anti abuse drug your father can take after getting detoxified and upon his approval the specialist will start it. Also he can be alert of a de addiction center for a few weeks which has to be attached to a psychiatric hospital only. It a long term drug so yr cooperation and participation are a must. Definitely on course to recovery there mingle be relapses however as long he has family support and is determined not to resume drinking he will stay clean out of alcohol. Slowly but surely. All the best. Also motivate him and do not speak negatively or critically about him in front of him.
Next Steps
Go to a specialist psychiatrist who deals in substance abuse only n not a general one.
Health Tips
Never to use hard harsh words about him in front of that will reinforce him negatively. Please focus on his positive no matter how less they r

Alcohol dependence is associated with significant physical, mental and social problems. Physically, there can be liver failure, jaundice, vomiting of blood, passing blood in stools, stomach ulcers, damage to nerves of the body, swelling of legs, fluid collection in abdomen, and many more. Mentally, there is irreversible brain damage, worsening of anxiety or depression, triggering of psychosis and mood disorders, dementia, etc. From a social point of view, there may be isolation from neighbors or family, increased abusive behavior to children or spouses, legal problems, accidents, etc. Anti craving medications are available which will help to reduce the craving. Consult a psychiatrist with experience in deaddiction.
