It means that the ligament in the knee is broken . If you feel that the knee has become unstable / you feel that the knee will give way or if you are into sports then surgery needs to be considered . If not then hamstring n quadriceps strengthening exercises.

Hello dear First of all MRI alone is not very reliable in case of ACL tears. A well performed clinical examination with MRI confirmation is the right way to go about it. ACL is a ligament in your knee which imparts stability. If you do have an ACL tear, it means your knee could be unstable and needs surgery in majority of cases. However, a clinical examination is a must before reaching any conclusions. Regards Dr Vipin Gupta
