Dear Patient,
Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the cat bite incident and your anxiety about rabies. It is understandable to feel worried, especially given your pregnancy and the information you have come across. Let me address your concerns step by step:
1. **Rabies in Cats**: While rabies is rare in domestic cats, especially those that are kept indoors, it is not impossible. However, since your cat is still alive and healthy 11 months after the bite, it is highly unlikely that the cat had rabies at the time of the bite. Rabies in animals typically leads to death within a few days to weeks after symptoms appear.
2. **Incubation Period**: The incubation period for rabies in humans can vary, but it is usually between 1 to 3 months. In rare cases, it can be longer, but the vast majority of cases show symptoms within a year. Since it has been 11 months and you have not shown any symptoms, the risk is extremely low.
3. **Pregnancy and Vaccination**: Rabies vaccination is generally safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding if there is a significant risk of exposure. However, given the time that has passed and the health of your cat, the need for vaccination now is minimal.
4. **Anxiety**: It is important to manage your anxiety, especially during pregnancy. Your gynecologist’s reassurance is valuable, and it is good that you have vaccinated your cat now as a precaution.
5. **Breastfeeding and Vaccination**: If there were a need for vaccination, it is safe during breastfeeding. However, based on the information provided, it does not seem necessary at this point.
