I am undergoing RCT for right upper 6 num tooth and 5th tooth had a side cavity. X ray did not show rct but dr said its rct and started with it. Is it possible that xray doesnt show rct still doctor says it is rct??
Also for 5th tooth she said inlay should be put. I am not sure which type of inlay will provide strength to my tooth or if just silver filling is ok?.
My main concern is strength too my teeth and not money. Plz suggest which material inlay provides best strength? Also which material crown should i get firor my 6th tooth? Tooth had big cavity which i got treated 1year back now dr is doing rct. So centre of tooth has v big hole now and only sides are left. Some suggest all metal crown is best for 6th tooth and some suggest PFM while some say zirconia. Which one is best suited?? In terms if strength and i have heard the crown is not successful on 6th tooth as it is upper tooth. I am very scared. Plz guide well. Will i b able to eat normally as it is bite teeth??

The treatment for the carious teeth does not solely depend upon the x ray as it is not a 3D image..Combination of clinical and radiographic examination will help the dentist judge the accurate treatment for your teeth..Regarding the upper 5th tooth, if the dentist has suggested an inlay, it is the best restoration to get the proper proximal margins and contact in case of proximal caries which is deep and involving more than 1 cusp of your teeth..Inlays have good strength will different alterantives composite inlay or ceramic inlay which are bonded on to your teeth with best retention..For your 6th tooth,it must be a deep cavity so root canal treatment is best for the caries reaching the pulp of your tooth..Proceeding with crowns for your root canal treated teeth, zirconia crowns are best for esthetic purpose with good retention and strength whereas metal and PFM crowns even have comparable strength but not good option if you are esthetically concerned..Crowns are very much successful for upper teeth and for them falling down is a myth..

Hello sir....
FOR 5TH NUMBER TOOTH:
As the cavity is deep our dentist suggests you inlay....inlay is mostly recommended for large deep cavities and for tooth that is weak to hold the normal fillings too... concerning about material you can go with either metal or zirconia ..both having good strength....bt in esthetic concern zirconia is much better than metal inlays...â¦
FOR 6TH NUMBER TOOTH where RCT performed:
there are 3 types of crown material available....
**metal crowns
** porcelain fused to metal crowns(ceramic)
**zirconia crowns
METAL CROWNS:
superior in strength but esthetically inferior
PORCELAIN FUSED TO METAL CROWNS(CERAMIC);
ADVANTAGE:
**Strength is good because of metal parts
** esthetically superior than metal crowns
DISADVANTAGE:
**Has the chance for the ceramic part to chip off in the heavy occlusal part area
**less colour matching when compared to zirconia
ZIRCONIA (METAL FREE CROWNS)
As it is metal free crown esthetically more superior than any other crowns..
As it is made up of Diamond crystals, strength is more good....
As it is the esthetic plus strength zone, you can go with ZIRCONIA CROWNS....
YES you can eat much better after fixing crowns... it is mandatory to put crown for root canal treated teeth as the root canal treated teeth is weak.....
Hi. I am an Endodontist so I hope I can answer your doubts.
Your description itself provides part of the answer. Even if the decay or depth is not too far in, the size of the cavity might require a post/ core-buildup, followed by a crown, which is ideally done after a Root Canal treatment. Such large fillings without a Crown are not going to last long, as you have already experienced.
As far as material choices for Crowns, since its an upper first Molar, you could go in for both Zirconia or a variety of Metal-Ceramic crowns called DMLS.
Metal crown is not suggested because it comes in the Aesthetic zone. Upper second or third Molar is fine for that.
Next Steps
Inlay is a good choice for a conservative, long lasting option. though there are some material options, I am sure York dentist would suggest which would be the best for you. it would be good to go in for Zirconia if Esthetics is very important to you also. If done at a good clinic, both Zirconia and Metal have comparable strength.
1. For 5 nmbr tooth. Whether to have amalgam filling or inlay. Depends on severity of caries.
2. For 6 nmbr tooth both pfm and metal crowns will have good strength.
