A 6-year-old child with a cold and runny nose for 6 days who is now experiencing a headache for 2 days could have one of the following conditions: Possible Causes:Viral illness – Common colds can last 7–10 days, and headaches can be due to congestion. Sinusitis – If nasal congestion persists, it may cause sinus pressure and headaches.Otitis media (Ear infection) – Middle ear infections can cause headaches.Dehydration – Reduced fluid intake due to illness may lead to headaches.Migraine or tension headache – If there is no fever or other symptoms. Rare but serious causes – Meningitis (if fever, vomiting, neck stiffness).
Next Steps
Continue symptomatic treatment – Steam inhalation, saline nasal drops, plenty of fluids. Give a child-safe pain reliever – Paracetamol (10–15 mg/kg/dose every 6 hours) if pain is significant. Hydrate well – Ensure the child drinks enough water. Check for red flags – High fever, neck stiffness, persistent vomiting, severe drowsiness, seizures.
Health Tips
Visit a Doctor if fever persists or worsens, severe headache not relieved by medications,swelling/redness around the eyes (could indicate a sinus or orbital complication),Neck stiffness, irritability, or altered behavior If the headache is mild and improving with supportive care, it is likely part of the viral illness or mild sinus congestion. However, if symptoms worsen, a physical examination is needed to rule out complications like sinusitis or ear infections.

Consult a general pediatrician. Headaches are common during colds. If it is not happening since a long time and not severe, no need to worry
