During early pregnancy (6 weeks), it’s very important to be cautious with medications. For cough and cold symptoms, you should consult a Gynecologist first. They can guide you safely, considering both maternal and fetal health. In general, home remedies like warm water, steam inhalation, honey with warm water, and rest are preferred in early pregnancy. If medications are needed, your gynecologist may recommend pregnancy-safe options such as: Paracetamol for fever/body ache (safe in pregnancy) Saline nasal drops for blocked nose Steam inhalation for relief from congestion Benadryl or Cough syrups should be avoided unless prescribed Avoid self-medication. Always take medicines only under medical supervision during pregnancy. For consultation, connect with me on Practo for video consultations. Hello,  Congratulations on your pregnancy! At 6 weeks, it’s understandable to be cautious about medications, as this is a critical period for fetal development. For cough and cold during pregnancy, I recommend the following:  1. Consult an Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB-GYN) – They specialize in pregnancy care and can guide you on safe remedies.  2. Avoid self-medication – Many over-the-counter drugs are unsafe in the first trimester.  3. Try natural remedies – Warm saline gargles, steam inhalation, honey (in moderation), and adequate hydration can help.  Since your symptoms may need evaluation to rule out infections or complications, I advise scheduling a consultation with me for personalized guidance. Pregnancy requires careful monitoring, especially when illnesses arise.  For further assistance, you can reach me on WhatsApp at **Eight Zero Zero Nine Eight Two One Three Three Two**.  Wishing you a healthy pregnancy! Let’s ensure you and your baby stay safe.

As such it is good to avoid taking any medicines till 12 weeks of pregnancy. If symptoms  are mild, steam inhalation,  drinking warm water,  hot saline gargles are good. If severe, she can take tab azithromycin 500mg one daily for 3 days, cetrrizine 5mg one daily for 5 days.
Health Tips
Better to consult a physician before starting meds.

Once your illness subsides you may discuss with your gynecologist about getting a Flu vaccine in pregnancy as pregnant women are more susceptible to complication of flu and this can be prevented by this vaccine.
