Our mother, (51 yrs) is a patient of Rheumatoid Arthritis since 25 yrs. We visited various doctors at various places but everyone told that knee replacement was the only option. She visited Bangalore in 2016 and the pain was so high that we had to go for the surgery. Though she was in considerable pain, she was willing to prolong it for the sake of rumours heard as many People warned us of the difficulties of the recovery period, after the surgery that there was going to be enormous pain and unless prescribed exercises are not done stringently, the whole expensive surgery would be a waste, that there is a chance that she'll lose the very functioning of her legs. These were more or less why my mom kept postponing the surgery indefinitely and endured the existing pain.

It was tryst with my destiny that made me visit Dr. Balasubrahmanyam P R at his Susheel Orthopaedic Centre on 11th May this year. It was really a memorable meeting with a wonderful Doctor with a humanely behaviour now seldom seen in professional doctors. Before him I visited 2 best hospital in Bangalore who seems to be interested only to perform TKR without explaining the extra risk involved in simulteneous removal of an implant in my left tibia implanted 16 years ago. These two hospitals are Manipal & Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore. Their behaviour was totally mechanical and they tried to encash with higher package for TKR once they knew that I have medical insurance. Then one of my son's friend recommended Dr Balasubramanyam based on Practo evaluation by patients. We met him at his chamber at Susheel Orthopaedics. He asked for the erlier x-rays done on my knee joint. On seeing the x-ray, he said that the joint gone very bad and need to be operated soon. We told him about what the doctors of the two hospital said. But he advised for removal of the earlier implant first to minimisee the risk factor in TKR operation and to go in for TKR at a later date and prescribed some medicines..We revealed to him that we have insurance coverage but he seems not interested in that and not advised instant TKR as the other two did. However, after 3-4 days we decided to go in for TKR without first removal of erlier implant on tibia. Initially, he resisted explaining that it will increase 1 percentage point risk in surgery but seeing our urgency agreed to do the operation at Sagar Hospital as operation theater facility was good there and told us that he will get the management of the hospital no to charge more than 3 lakhs and that too with deluxe single sharing room. Whereas, the other two hospital offered package of 3.8 lakh to 4.20 lakh for twin sharing accomodation. On the penultimate day on 19th May , he operated on my left knee after first removing the implant on tibia and also removing another implant on lower right leg. The TKR operation was typically sucessful as the x-ray revealed. During my hospital days he regularly visited me and counselled me for the discomfort that I was enduring at that time. I was discharged on 24th May without any complication except some contineous pain. Physiotherapy was done upto 25th of June before I left for Bhopal. During this one month period I visited him 3 times and got due care and medical advice from him. One more thing, the hospital bill against insurance was 3.11 lakh & non medical expenses of another 11 thousand. Today is 1 month 14 days from surgery. I started waking 1.5 KM to 2 KM twice a day without any difficulty getting almost 100 bend except for some contineous low intensity pain in my operated leg. Though the period is too early, I hope to be better and better with time. Hope the pain also gone with time. It is all because of the Doctor that I am walking again. Many many thanks to the doctor for his wonderfull services. I would definitely recommend Dr Balasubrahmanyum P R for any successful knee surgery. Thanks again Doctor.
Visited For Ligament Reconstruction

I had visited Dr.Balasubramanyam for my knee injury due to an accident (fell from 2 wheeler). I had initially consulted one of the famous surgeons in Indiranagar soon after the injury. He suggested to get an MRI done in his suggested diagnostic center and was diagnosed with multiple ligament tear. I was startled to see the report that read as :1. Complete tear of ACL, 2. Complete tear of PCL, 3. Grade 1 Intrasubstance meniscus tear, 4. Grade1 to Grade 2 Horizontal meniscus tear. Doctor mentioned the injury to be very severe and was asked to undergo a major surgery after 10 days and surgery being the only option. I was skeptical on this diagnosis as the knee swelling was little and was able to walk slowly and cautiously. I did not want to undergo an unnecessary surgery as my knee clearly indicated that there could be something which can be done without it. This is when I came to know about Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr.Balasubramanyam. After he did a round of physical examination and looked into the MRI films and the report, straight away indicated the discrepancies between MRI image and the report inferred by diagnostic center. He boosted up the confidence in me to give a wait, for a month more and undergo physiotherapy in the meantime; post which I was asked to get 3T-MRI scan done. I could see some improvements in the knee movements post physiotherapy and the latest MRI results were surprisingly full-on contradictory to the 1st MRI, resulting as : 1. ACL is intact, 2. Near total tear of mid portion of PCL, 3. Grade 1 sprain of medial collateral ligament, 4. Grade 1 sprain of medial patellar retinaculum. Doctor suggested not to go for any surgery on immediate basis, instead give a sufficient time to the knee (a month more of observation), besides continuation of physiotherapy (self-doing). I am following his advice promptly, taking the medicines as prescribed and hoping for knee stability, devoid of surgery. I am really pleased by the way Dr.Balasubramanayam dealt my case genuinely, where a major surgery turned out to be no-surgery(or a minor one even if it is going to be based on my knee condition after a month). He patiently gave enough time to hear my case, ******** *********** giving precise suggestions for all my queries and majorly filling confidence in me to overcome the poor shape of my knee ligaments. I would definitely and only recommend Dr.Balasubramanayam without any blink for any Orthopaedic related health issues. Hope this will help out someone who is experiencing the same chaotic state which I initially was undergoing through, due to contradictory MRI reports and the urgency that few other doctors pushed for surgery.
Visited For Knee replacement
My mother, who is 64 years old, got a Knee Replacement surgery done on her left leg by Dr. Balasubramanyam in April. The process to get her prepared for it began right from January. Though she was in considerable pain, she was willing to prolong it for the sake of fulfilling certain commitments. Patients who had already undergone this surgery, their caregivers & well-wishers and other doctors had warned us of the difficulties of the recovery period, after the surgery; that there was going to be enormous pain, that the patient will remain invalid for a period of a month after the surgery, that unless prescribed exercises are not done stringently, the whole expensive surgery would be a waste, that there is a chance that she'll lose the very functioning of her legs, and other such cheerful cautions. These were more or less why my mom kept postponing the surgery indefinitely and endured the existing pain.
