This story refers to my mother (age 60 years) who was suffering from mild pain in her lower back and right leg. This started in the first week of Jan 2021 due to a sudden jerk while doing the daily household chores. The pain was mild in her lower back in the beginning which gradually turned into severe and shifted to her right leg. After a month, she was unable to sit, stand or walk at all and this called for immediate consultation. We referred to the orthopedic doctor in our place (Nagpur). After going through X-rays and MRIs as he suggested, he said the nerve behind spine at L4 and L5 got compressed affecting the movement of right leg. The medicines as prescribed & physiotherapy as suggested were continued for more than a month and she got considerable relief that she was able to sit, stand and walk for a short duration. The doctor said this was the maximum possible that could be achieved with ongoing treatment and had to undergo spine surgery to permanently treat the source of pain. I was taken aback when heard of spine surgery.

Considering surgery as the last option, I started my search for the best spine specialist in Pune and came to know about Dr Mayur Kardile on Google. I started studying more about the doctor, his experience & patients’ stories. The more I read about the doctor, more confident I felt on having treatment from him. On consultation for the first time, he patiently listened to the history of pain, treatment undertaken, gone through MRIs & X-rays and systematically examined her. He explained us through schematic about the problem which he identified as L4-5 Central Disc Herniation with Right Side Disc Herniation + Right Side Radiculopathy, explained the reason behind pain and the remedy over it. He advised for the spine surgery Minimally Invasive Decompression (L4-5 Right Side Laminotomy with Disectomy with over the Top Disectomy). He assured that the surgery will be very well and precisely carried out and no need to worry. He also assured that my mother will be able to walk painlessly the very next day.

The surgery was done successfully in the morning at Jehangir Hospital. The doctor showed me the sample of part extracted / trimmed during surgery. I was blessed to see my mother walking few steps the same day with minimum support. She felt very relieved and experienced no pain as before. She was able to walk few more steps the next days and could do the physio-exercises as well. She got discharged the third day. She is doing quite well now and its been 10 days post surgery. No complaints..!!

I convey my heartful thanks to Dr Mayur Kardile who has brought my mother to a normal life. None of my family members thought we would get through this problem so easily. My wife had severe pain Cervical Radiculopathy due to cervical slip disc. Her pain started from the neck, passed through her right shoulder and then reached throughout her right arm She even had weakness in her right arm. After resting and taking precautions at home for the first 2 weeks, she consulted Dr Nilesh Kamath at Jehangir Hospital who duly referred her case to Dr Mayur Kardile. She first met Dr Mayur Kardile in the first week of December 2020.

Dr Mayur suspected from the very beginning that her problem might require surgery but first advised Non surgical treatment for slip disc through medication, physiotherapy and pain management methods. The methods seemed to be giving some relief, but after 2-3 weeks the pain started recurring, reversing the positive effects.

On consulting Dr Mayur again he said that with persistent weakness in her right arm stiffness in the neck we can not give pain killers for too long as it may affect the kidneys. So the best option is to do the surgery and relieve the nerve."

We consulted a few other doctors in Pune and Mumbai who we thought were experts in this field for a second opinion and almost all of them advised surgery. Finally, she agreed to get operated on 17th Jan 2021. The MRI that was taken right before surgery indicated that the disc herniation had worsened since the last MRI conducted on 12th Dec 2020. My wife woke up in the recovery room; and when in the room it took her 2-3 hours to get rid of the effect of anaesthesia. When I asked her about her pain level, she said that she had none.

Dr. Mayur came to meet her again the same day in the afternoon and next morning, and then called me again on each of the following two days, to check on her and to make sure that she was comfortable. I could at that moment barely come up with words to express my gratitude.

It has now been two weeks and, miraculously, my wife has experienced zero discomfort from the procedure, after which she felt immediate relief from symptoms that had been bothering her in her right shoulder and arm. Dr. Mayur told me on the second phone call that he would be going out of town, but that we should feel free to call him or text him if we had any concerns. In fact, he called me each day he was away to make sure that she was doing well. Could one possibly ask for a more caring doctor?

My mother aged 67 was suffering from Sciatica pain for 3+ years, she had being taking Ayurvedic medicines which gave her temporary relief. Since a year plus, I have been facing chronic lower back pain which was an excruciating.
