I live in UAE and had come to India for some work. Thought of showing my eyes to an ophthalmologist and then showed in Medanta.
Please note the DISASTROUS chronology of events that have happened with me in Medanta.
07-Feb-2022:
I took an appointment to show to “Dr Sudipto Pakrasi”. I got a message that “Dr Sudipto and team” would see me on 08-Feb-2022. However, to be doubly sure, I called Medanta to confirm if Dr Pakrasi himself will see me. I was told that Dr Pakrasi won’t see me but some other doctor. The message should have mentioned that “Dr Pakrasi’s team” would see instead of “Dr Pakrasi and team”. **** *** *** ***** ***********
I took an appointment to directly see Dr Sudipto Pakrasi on 15-Feb-2022.
15-Feb-2022:
I consulted Dr Sudipto Pakrasi on 15-Feb-2022.
He gave me hardly 2 or 3 minutes and said that I must get operated immediately for cataract in both eyes. He asked me how I’m living without getting operated!!!
I was telling him that I didn’t have any major issue with the eyes and I could see much better with the left eye than with the right eye, but he showed me some pictures and just said “see the pictures; the left eye is having more problem”.
He didn’t listen at all and called another patient. I thought that he might be busy that day.
In the name of MEDANTA ONLY, I decided to go for the operation.
(Nobody in this world had recommended me to show to this specific doctor.)
His coordinator, Mainak Roy, explained to me that it is up to me when to get operated and I could get one eye operated now and the other I could get operated later (after a few months). This was contradictory to what the doctor had said.
I was also told by the coordinator that with EDOF lenses, I would not require glasses for distant vision AT ALL and, I would not require glasses for near vision (unless I’ll need to read anything very close). And all this would happen the very next day.
Not even a junior doctor was there to explain the things to me. ******* **** ** ******* *** ************* ** ****** *** **** ********************
I visited Medanta Gurgaon for tests and to meet the anaesthesiologist. After everything was over, I was told that the surgery would be done in the Medanta New Delhi branch. This place was quite far from my residence and take 2.5 hours one way. I should have been informed about this difference on day one. I had to visit this branch total 4 times.
25-Feb-2022:
I got operated on 25-Feb-2022 for cataract in the right eye (based on my decision to go for the right eye first) with FEMTO Laser and EDOF lenses.
*** ******* **** *** *** *** *** *************** ******** **** ******* *****There was a query raised by my insurance provider on 21-Feb-2022 to Medanta TPA. But these people did not respond at all. I also tried to call the Medanta TPA between 22-Feb-2022 to 24-Feb-2022, but nobody picked up the call even after calling at least 20 times. I even called through the main Customer Care number of Medanta but the call to TPA was not getting connected.
The after-effect of this episode was that on the day of surgery, my family and friends had to struggle till late evening to get approval from insurance. When approval was delayed beyond our tolerance, we made the payment ourselves and went back home.
26-Feb-2022:
I consulted Dr Pakrasi in the follow-up and told him that since one eye is operated and the other is not (with the power of -4.25), I’m not able to see properly and working on the computer is not possible at the moment. When I asked him for Sick Leaves, he said to me that people will laugh at him if he writes Sick Leaves. He wrote after requesting many times.
28-Feb-2022:
After the surgery, my vision in the right eye was not clear.
At night, it was so pathetic that I went into a Depression.
03-Mar-2022:
I showed to Dr Pakrasi on 03-Mar-2022. This time, there was a different story.
He told me that this problem is happening because EDOF lenses are not designed to see with one eye, and I would get clear vision only after when the left eye is also operated.
Since I was having trouble, I asked him if he can get the power of the lens checked once again for the left eye. He outrightly said – “don’t even ask this question; we know what we are doing”?
04-Mar-2022:
I didn’t have a choice and got my left eye operated on 04-Mar-2022.
05-Mar-2022:
When I went to show him on 05-Mar-2022, I was first sent to Dr Carreen Pakrasi. She told me that my distant vision is not clear because Dr Sudipto Pakrasi did calculations for IOL and focussed more on my near vision ****** ** ******* * ********* ***** She is very good and had listened to all my problems.
Finally, when I met Dr Sudipto Pakrasi, he said to me that everything is fine, and he don’t want to see me again.
I asked him if I should do some eye exercises; he said, “eye exercises are of no use”.
Sufficient power had come for both the eyes in the test by the optometrist, but doctor said not to use any eyeglasses. I told him that my vision is not clear, and he responded that now I must “Train my Brain to see the world” but didn’t tell me how.
This came to me as a shock, *** * **** ******** ******
Later I understood that he had said all these because he had his HIDDEN plan of leaves.
I was not able to work, as I was getting pain in my eyes even after working on the laptop for 10 minutes. I had to zoom everything to see. Again, when I asked for Sick Leaves, he repeated the same story that people will laugh at him.
17-Mar-2022:
Since I was having trouble, I took an appointment to show to Dr Sudipto Pakrasi on 17-Mar-2022, and to my dismay, this doctor had gone on leave, without any prior information.
Hence, that day, I had to show myself to Dr Sabrani Ghosh (doctor of his team).
Optometrists checked me and wrote the power for my glasses.
But when I checked the paper which was there with Dr Sabrani Ghosh, I was shocked again to see that the “near vision power” was not mentioned there at all. However, a good amount of power had already come in the check-up.
When I asked the doctor, then she sent me again to the optometrists to get the power checked. “Near vision power” was +1.25. * ***** *** ********** **** *********
I informed her about the following issues I was facing:
a) Distant vision not clear
b) Near vision not clear
c) Seeing excessive halos
d) Seeing double images/shadows
e) Pain in eyes
Additional major issues that I observed later:
f) Not able to see the Green Arrow of Traffic Light
g) Persistent heaviness in my eyes
Dr Sabrani Ghosh told me that I’ll have to show to Dr Sudipto Pakrasi.
But Dr Pakrasi had vanished.
After a lot of hue and cry, I got an appointment from him for 05-Apr-2022 in Medanta Gurgaon.
29-Mar-2022:
I gave a call to Mainak Roy to re-confirm that Dr Pakrasi will be seeing me on 05-Apr-2022 in Medanta Gurgaon.
And another shock – he told me that Dr Pakrasi has cancelled all his appointments, and now he’ll be available only on 12-Apr-2022.
**** *** ***** *** ******* I had not received any SMS also about this cancellation.
Finally, I decided not to show him again, as it would consume one full day, get my mood upset after seeing him, and he won’t give any solution to me.
Every time I saw him, he was behaving the same way with every patient. He is EXTREMELY RUDE, ARROGANT, ************** ********** *** *************** *** ******* ** **** *** *****

My questions to Medanta Management:
1. When an appointment was requested for Dr Sudipto Pakrasi, why was I first given an appointment in which some other doctor would see me and not Dr Sudipto Pakrasi?
2. Why didn’t he give me sufficient time to discuss my case when I met him first on 15-Feb-2022?******* **** ****** ********* ** ** ** ******* *** ***** **** *** **** **** * ********* ****** ** *********
4. Why did he so arrogantly say to me regarding rechecking of lens power – “don’t even ask this question; we know what we are doing”?
5. Why did Dr Pakrasi’s team (Dr Sabrani Ghosh) initially didn’t prescribe any power for my near vision? Is +1.25 a power that is supposed to be ignored by the patient?******* *** **** * **** ***** ** ******* **** *** ******************** why I’m having the issues of:

My father got operated in both eyes for cataract by Dr Sudipto….He has been having endless problems after the surgery…Earlier we thought that these things take time to recover but when even after 4 months things didn’t improve we showed the doctor again…He then got some more test done and blamed it all on retina….He implied that we had gone to him for cataract and he had done it perfectly….He also said that our problems were from before the surgery * *** ***** ** *** ******* ** * ***** ****** ** *** ******He was very rude when we told him that the problems had occurred only after the surgery….I would advise everyone to please not to trust Dr Sudipto **** ***** *****

Booked appointment for my father for 12:30pm. Had to wait around 2 hour to actually see doctor. Not at all a friendly doctor, arrogant and unfriendly. When asked to explain problem in Hindi by my father, he was reluctant and not explained problem properly. Expect more politeness from such a highly reputed doctor.
