If your tooth was not removed surgically (involving gum/bone cutting) then stitches are not required. Do not worry ,the wound will heal well without stitches.
It isn't a must at all, the dentist or the surgeon takes a call depending upon the size of the wound and whether he/she needed to open up the gums to remove it.
