Oxcarbazepine is generally considered a second-line or off-label option, typically used if a patient cannot tolerate first-line mood stabilizers. However, choosing the "better" long-term medication depends heavily on your specific symptom profile (e.g., frequent mania vs. depression) and your metabolic tolerance, as both require routine health monitoring.
