CRP is an inflammatory marker and it usually means that there is some form of inflammation( body's heightened protective phenomena) against some harmful substance in the body.
A raised CRP (generally >10) is indicative of this inflammatory response due to infections, autoimmune conditions etc. A very high CRP (>100) is sometimes indicative of typical infections like TB and some other autoimflammatory conditions. Any CRP <1 is negative and helps the doctor to think of causes other than infection that could have caused a fever. CRP 1-10 is usually equivocal and has more significance in chronic disease like a heart disease and not in fever or suspected infections.
