My 30-year old cousin has been diagnosed with Stage II tongue cancer. Though treatment has been started and he’s in a recovery according to doctors but I’m curious to know the tongue cancer causes. He doesn’t chew tobacco or take any drugs. An oncologist’s detailed response would be great!

The start of a cancer depends on interaction of many factors, of which tobacco is the most prevalent. It can also arise as a result of repeated injury due to sharp teeth, HPV related infections, alcohol consumption, and rarely genetic factors etc. It is difficult to pinpoint a cause.
