Weak left arm
I have been going to the gym since a year. I was able to do all the exercises there. But when it came to lifting the dumbbells, the right arm was functioning normally, but the left arm wasn't able to lift the dumbbell after a few minutes of exercise. My trainer told me that i have a left shoulder injury which happened before i joined the gym. Since he has done a course in physiotherapy, he told me to do some shoulder exercises, but even then the problem hasn't resolved. Recently i have noticed that even my elbows pain while performing bicep dumbbell workout. Only because of this weak left arm, i am not able to perform dumbbell exercises with heavier weights. There is absolutely no issue to the right shoulder, it is able to lift the weights properly, but only because of the left arm, my overall workout is impacted a lot. Please let me know what i must do to treat my weak left arm? Thank you in advance.

Hello. Provide some photos and videos in which pain comes , or provide more details like in which specific movement pain comes or trigger. Get an MRI of your shoulder , it will reveal any injury of your shoulder. And till then kindly avoid forcefull movements that too with weight...it is doing nothing just making it more worse in any form. Further you can consult for more details. Thanks

As you mentioned that guide at gym mentioned about injury at your shoulder , you need to get it treated. If there is pain in your shoulder at rest or particular activities to name a few like if you comb the hair with left hand or may be when you raise your your arm to bolt a door....or specific activities.....a physical examination by physiotherapist is required. Once pain is managed and injury is healed  .strengthening exercises have to be done.
Next Steps
visit a physiotherapist for assessment and treatment. you may consult us online or offline at Muskaan Physiotherapy Clinic ,Pushpanjali.
Health Tips
it is not just any exercise but right exercises which are going to improve strength.

First of all, you have to rule out the cause for your shoulder weakness and pain. So you should take a MRI shoulder to find out the cause then you can consult a Physiotherapist in person for further assessment and treatment.

Hi, no person in the world can double up as a professional in 2 different fields. Gym trainer can't become physio but a physio can advise as to how to train in gym. In ur case, if there is a shoulder injury happened unknowingly, plz get it checked at nearby Physiotherapy or orthopedic clinic. Physio can advise how to become fit from unfit n also how to maintain fitness. Gym trainer cant treat as he knows how to keep fit n maintain the same.

Hi, Im a sports physiotherapist dealing with many athletes who work out in gyms and present with similar shoulder pains and I have experienced the same. Sometimes either due to prior injury or improper workout form (eg. Bench press with shoulders rounded) you have a risk of developing a rotator cuff injury (supraspinatus tendon tear or impingement) you can confirm this either by a Ultrasonography from a centre that can diagnose musculoskeletal injuries or by a good sports physiotherapist or orthopedic. Post that a good balance of tight muscle release and a gradual rehabilitation (theraband and light weights) for your rotator cuff muscles for 6-8 weeks will have to be followed. During this time you will have to avoid certain movements like overhead exercises and weights to allow the healing process to go uninterrupted. This will be done undersupervision by an able sports physiotherapist. It could be followed by gradual lifting with correct exercise form. MRI too gives the complete picture of your shoudler but should be the last resort if exercises dont help.
Next Steps
USG of shoulder
Health Tips
Avoid overhead weights
