Watery eye of 5 month old baby
My baby is 5 months old and I have noticed his Right eye gets watery multiple times a day. There is no redness..but sometimes he rubs his both eyes. This problem was not there from his birth, it started just 3 weeks back. What can be the reason for this? Can tear duct get blocked after 5 months of birth as well? Or its some infection? Please suggest what to do. I am from Lucknow, which doctor should I consult?

This may be a passing phase in a chubby baby as the tears glands mature and lid folds develop. If the watering is associated with yellowish discharge, matting of the lids in the morning, one has to rule out a blockage in the tear duct system that connects eye and the nose (NLD complex). It is important to keep good local hygiene and not put any eye drops till a doctor is consulted. Culture/sensitivity of bacterial growth decides antibiotic choice when indicated. Massage over the tear sack may be carried out after proper training by the parents. Probing may be considered subsequently. There is no need to panic.
