Vision of 5 year old
Hello,
Can you please tell what is the expected vision for a 5 year old kid? I mean if the doctors test their eye will they expect the line on the chart corresponding to 20/20 vision to be visible to the kid? Else, which line is the benchmark for the 5 yr old?

Hello, a 5 year old should be able to read the last line that is 6/6 or 20/20,,,if the child is able to read above that line, with little encouragement they should be able to see. If there are many lines not read in the vision chart, its better the child should be evaluated to correct his power and prevent visual deficiency later. Preschool evaluation of vision must be done to detect any refractive errors so that it can be timely detected and treated appropriately.

Child should read 6/6.....such small kids can't read sometimes for other reasons .better to do a dilated cycloplegic refraction to rule out any glass power.... 4-6yrs all kids must be screened for vision and refraction

Hello..... In the United States, the standard placement of the eye chart is on a wall that's 20 feet away from your eyes. In Indian since many eye doctors' don't have rooms that are 20 feet long, in a smaller room the eye chart may hang behind the patient chair, using mirrors to make it appear in front of you at a simulated distance of 20 feet.monoocular visual acuity less than 10/20 needs treatment.
