Hello doctors. I recently underwent a routine checkup and found out that I have critically low levels of vitamin D (6.5), while my serum calcium level is 10.1.
I wanted to ask if I should proceed with the vitamin d3 (Cholecalciferol) weekly medication or should it prevent from taking it otherwise it would raise my calcium levels too?
My regular doctor advised me to take the medication for two months. I just wanted to have a second opinion to make an informed decision. Thankyou

With a vitamin D level of 6.5 ng/mL, this is a severe deficiency and treatment should not be delayed. A serum calcium of 10.1 mg/dL is within the normal range, so it is safe to take vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) as prescribed. Vitamin D supplementation does not cause dangerous calcium rise when taken in standard weekly doses and monitored appropriately the usual approach is 60,000 IU once weekly for 6â8 weeks followed by rechecking levels after correction a lower maintenance dose is advised to keep levels stable
