Hello there, to know this, you must know the physiology of kidneys and a little bit knowledge never hurt anyone.
So here it is - our kidneys filter out around 180 litres of blood at the glomerular level which are the final units of kidneys. But imagine how difficult it would be if we had to mixture that much amount of urine everyday.
The kidneys this have an immense capability to concentrate urine. Maximum ranging to about 1200-1400 mOsm/l. For an estimate, the Australian hoping mouse concentrates its urine to about 10000 mOsm/l which allows it to last weeks without water. The kidneys achieve this concentration by a lot of pathways which remain beyond the scope of this answer.
You see its not possible to quantify what you are actually asking because of the following reasons.
1. Urination depends on amount of insensible water loss too that is through sweat, skin, etc
2. There is no standard amount of urine a person could pass because water consumption as well as aerobic and anerobic activity determine it.
3. It could be reduced due to disease processes like acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, renal failure, siadh.
4. It could be increased as in diabetes insipidus and mellitus, etc.
5. It could be affected by the medications a person is taking.
6. A person could have urinary tract abnormalities like benign hyperplasia, neural autoregulatory failure, etc causing him or her to inappropriately micturate.
A person can have the sensation of micturition when the urinary bladder fills (the max capacity being around 400-600ml) and stretch receptors are activated sending the signals. A disturbance in neural regulation may also cause disturbance often referred to as neurogenic bladder.
Besides some there is a voluntary control associated with it so you can empty your bladder earlier or later depending on social obligations too.
Therefore i am telling you that there is no number which could tell you the normal number of times a person should urinate.
What i can tell you is how much is abnormal !
We normally define oliguria (decreased urination) as about less than 400ml a day for a 72 kg man.
And anuria (no urination) if its less than 100 ml per day.
The average urine output per day is 1200-1500 ml per day.
These paramerters are for a normal man without any disease process who drink a normal amount of water.
Since you asked and its mentioned in one of the NCBI articles (its an authentic source) they say that an adult urinates for about 4-7 times a day but never after retiring or going to sleep.
Hope this helps.
