My wife has hypithyroidism since last 9 years. Her current TSH has uncreased to 8.7. She takes 150mg thyronorm daily still her thyroid has increased. He weight has risen from 75 to 81 kg in two months while on the same oil free diet. The doctor has suggested to increase the mg of medication as a solution. Please suggest the alternative and long lasting solution for the thyroid condition. Also, she has asthma and uses FORCOT-400 ( one puff daily). Could use of the steroid increase the weight and thyroid?

Inhaled corticosteroid has got milder effect on hypothyroidism..rule out fatty liver , insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus, chronic inflammation due to elevated level of cortisol
Dear Patient,
Thank you for sharing your concerns about your wife's thyroid condition and weight gain. Hypothyroidism can be challenging to manage, especially when TSH levels remain elevated despite medication. Here are some key points and recommendations:
1. **Medication Adjustment**: Increasing the dose of Thyronorm, as suggested by her doctor, is a common approach when TSH levels are high. It's important to monitor TSH levels regularly to ensure the dosage is appropriate.
2. **Diet and Lifestyle**: While an oil-free diet is beneficial, other dietary factors can influence thyroid function and weight. Ensure a balanced diet rich in fiber, lean proteins, and essential nutrients. Regular physical activity can also help manage weight and improve overall health.
3. **Steroid Use**: FORCOT-400 contains a corticosteroid, which can contribute to weight gain and potentially affect thyroid function. It's important to use this medication as prescribed and discuss any concerns with her healthcare provider.
4. **Comprehensive Evaluation**: Given her long-standing hypothyroidism and asthma, a thorough evaluation is essential to rule out other contributing factors, such as adrenal function or other endocrine issues.
5. **Alternative Therapies**: While medication adjustment is the primary approach, some patients benefit from complementary therapies, such as stress management techniques and ensuring adequate intake of selenium and zinc, which support thyroid function.
