I wanted to check which is a better test to assess thyroid Free thyroid profile or total thyroid profile. Are they almost similar? if free thyroid profile is normal would it mean total thyroid profile would also be normal?

Depends for what reason if previously hypothyroidism, just a TSH is okay to monitor. If hyperthyroidism then free and TSH.
If for health checkup then only TSH
