Throat irritation chronic
Throat irritation is followed by coughing, choking and breath feels uncleared. Uncomfortable; may feel I could collapse, but settle. No chest pain/wheezing. Started in Bangalore in 2020 and continued in Jamshedpur. Some days are symptom-free. Mainly mornings, before 2 PM. I often feel sputum stuck in my throat and clear it. It is thick, sticky, white and hard to expel; similar material comes out during intense coughing/choking. Episodes sometimes occur outdoors/balcony, especially near trees; I may remain fine indoors, windows closed. May be more common in cloudy/rainy/humid weather. Today I woke well; after washing my face/mouth, throat irritation started. After tea, coughing/choking occurred, then settled. Morning tooth-brushing can trigger it; night brushing usually does not. Used inhaler once. Symptoms stopped in a closed AC restaurant; unsure if AC triggers. No blood/fever/weight loss. HRCT Thorax done Sept 2020; report shared. Main concern: breath does not clear, causing choking.

Your history fits reflux-related throat irritation with an allergic post-nasal drip much more than any lung disease - normal HRCT with no fever or weight loss is reassuring. Morning sticky sputum, throat clearing after tea, and flares in humid weather or near trees all point the same way. The choking feeling is an irritated larynx, not your chest closing down. This settles well once reflux and the allergy part are treated together.
Next Steps
Start a 6-8 week trial of an anti-reflux medicine before breakfast plus a non-sedating antihistamine at night, keep dinner light and 3 hours before sleep, and do saline nasal wash daily. If choking episodes or morning sputum persist beyond that, we should relook with a fresh chest exam and spirometry. Consult me on Practo with your HRCT report and I will set the exact regimen for you.
