Tetanus toxoid coverage
Hello, if my mother had got a tetanus toxoid booster (the one we get at medical stores) on Jan 25, 2026, does she need to take another booster if she got a wound after falling on dusty ground and rupturing her toe today since it's within 6 months ? She is 83 plus and I am not sure if she got primary series of tetanus in her childhood days.

As the last tetanus booster was only 6 months ago, no additional tetanus booster is required. Clean the wound thoroughly and monitor for signs of infection. If primary vaccination history is uncertain and the wound is severe, consult a physician for wound assessment.

Clean the wound properly..no need of taking dose again as it is well protected for 5 years ….take painkillers if it hurts ..thats it

Since her last TT booster was only 6 months ago (January 2026), she is well within the 5-year protection window and does not need another booster for a routine wound. However, a wound from falling on dusty ground with skin rupture is a dirty, contaminated wound â for such wounds in elderly patients with uncertain primary vaccination history, many guidelines recommend giving a TT booster if the last dose was more than 5 years ago, but since hers was only 6 months ago, she is adequately covered. Clean and dress the wound well.

Tetanus spores are found on mud/dirty roads
Please get tetanus injection 0.5cc on left upper arm

If the wound was serious and got all dirty then it would be better to get a shot to prevent it.
Clean the wound with betadine.
