Teeth removal for tooth alignment
Hi All, My Orthodontist is suggesting removal of all 4 canine teeth for teeth alignment before i get braces. I would really appreciate a second opnion on this. He said that my front region of mouth is crowded hence to create space some teeths need to be removed. i am also worried about the gaps that will be left after the removal. Can someone please advise if this is necesaary? I do agree with him that my front region is definately a little crowded.

First thing first CANINES are NEVER extracted for orthdontic purpose Clarify this beforehand, if he insist on that it can be bcoz its impacted or inside bone! There are none other indication for removal of them Premolars are often extracted for space management. Consult another orthodontist to check up on treatment plan

Teeth removal during orthodontic tooth correction is done to provide space for alignment of teeth. Gaps will be closed by the end of the treatment. Do you have retained milk canines..that are going to be extracted? Usually 1st or 2nd premolar are extracted.

If your dentist had said you need to remove 4 teeth to correct your crowding,,then its correct on the basis of opg( full mouth x ray) & clinical examination,, but it can be 1st premolar instead of canines..and after extraction and completion of your treatment there would be no space left rather your crowded teeth would be aligned after around 10 to 12 months of treatment, so please be patient and discuss with your dentist about the outcome of treatment elaborately. And do take a second opinion whether canine or  1 st premolar need to be extracted.
