Teeth and oral hygiene
I am a 20 year old who has a normal lifestyle and a normal vegetarian diet. I brush once in the morning everyday. I don't floss. I wanted to know how I can maintain oral hygiene and how I can whiten my teeth without any whitening procedure.

It is mandatory to brush your teeth properly once in a day at least, but if you are brushing your teeth two times in a day then it will maintain your oral hygiene properly, try to do brushing of your teeth two times in a day. If you are brushing properly and if you are not having any complaint of  food lodgement in between your teeth then you dont need to do flossing.  Gargling properly after each and every meal is also sufficient. Brush your teeth properly after eating chocolates and food which is more sweeter. Use tongue cleaner for cleaning your tongue. It will maintain your oral hygiene and your breath too. And as there is whitening of teeth available, natural tooth color we can't change by household applications or home remedies, you need to get professional bleaching of your teeth done. If you are satisfied with your tooth color you dont have to worry about your teeth color. Dont trust Google knowledge as always, because visiting your dentist will give you more proper and appropriate knowledge regarding maintenance of your oral hygiene.

Dear practo user Maintenance of oral hygiene has some steps to follow regularly. 1. Brush twice a day, first thing after waking up in the morning, and just before going to sleep at night. 2. Soft and gentle brushes are recommended,  brushing should be in a vertical direction, and never horizontal. Circular motion of brush is also good. Brush by imagining as if something is stuck between your teeth. That will give you an idea of how to brush correctly. 3. Flossing is very useful and you need to start doing it everyday before going to sleep at night, just before the final brushing of the day. There are two types of floss, threaded and handled, you can select the best which suits you. 4. Rinsing with warm salt water for at least one minute three times a day, after food, will keep mouth fresh and healthy. Adding Betadine gargle and mouthwash in small quantities will help kill all microbes. 5. Massage your gums while brushing itself. Vitamin c and d intake will keep gums healthy. Clean your tongue also while brushing, and after every meal. 6. Teeth can't be whitened without whitening treatment. Brushing, scaling, oral prophylaxis do not whiten the teeth, whatever toothpaste you use. Even if you find that teeth have become whiter, it's all temporary. If you really are serious about teeth whitening, you need to consult your dentist without self experimenting at home.
Next Steps
buy DENTAL floss, Betadine gargle,  any mouthwash, and a soft toothbrush. company doesn't matter. they are all the same. consult your dentist for further examination and evaluation to provide you with a proper diagnosis and treatment plan
Health Tips
don't brush teeth within half an hour of consuming any cool drinks, or fruit juices containing ascorbic acid, or any acidic foods. consult dentist every 6 months for follow up.
