Teeth alignment and unable to smile
I am a 28 year old male. I had cross bite and got braces when I was 21. And while it helped improve my teeth positioning a little. It still did not lead to me being able to smile, my lips are also asymmetrical. So it looks like I have an asymmetric face when I smile. Is this treatable without surgery? And is it advisable to go for braces again if I am 28 years old and have already done it when I was 21.

Dear patient. Facial asymmetry can't be treated only with Orthodontics. Usually surgery is needed along with orthodontics. Now regarding the question of should you get surgery done- i would say visit an orthodontist in your city. For a second opinion. If the problem is mild - remember that minor facial asymmetry is normal and common. If the problem is severe , then yes you may opt for surgery. Coming to second question - should you get orthodontic dental braces treatment done again. Yes you can get retreatment done . This time ask your Orthodontist if  clear aligners are possible option for you. As clear aligners may not suit all. I hope this answers your questions. Hope it helped. Do let me know if you have any doubts. Best wishes.

Hi As you have already undergone orthodontic treatment, questions I wanted to ask 1) Retainer status? 2) pls share pics if possible to understand the current smile line. 3) accordingly will be able to suggest if smile correction can happen even without going for braces again. 4) and yes even at 28 alignment treatment braces is possible.

There are options to make them appear symmetrical without braces & surgeryif you wish to. Porcelain or composite veneers/laminates are a great option to transform the smile and achieve symmetry. They require minimal tooth preparation as well. If you wish to undergo orthodontic treatment, that can be done as well at 28. If you can share some photos of the smile, that can help us give you some clarity but a thorough in person consultation will be better. Feel free to reach out so we can guide you well. -Dr Renisa Shah Dr Sanjay Shah's Laser Smile Care Centre Mumbai

Hi, I suggest you meet the dentist again and share how you feel about your smile. If you need to undergo braces treatment again, there is nothing to worry. Also share some profile pictures, one without a smile and one with a smile.
