My 69 year old mother already has stage 3 lung cancer and is going through immunotherapy but suddenly since last 1 month she is coughing a lot, a lot, antibiotics didn't work, nebulizer didn't help so ct scan was done and there is a left upper lobe lesion being inflammatory or infective showing progression... Doctor doubts TB and want to do a broncoscopy but my mother has no fever or weight loss.. just coughing.. Is the broncoscopy really necessary? She is scared to get it done?
Can this be tb?

Hi
Consult a pulmonologist
As the left upper lobe lesion has increased, need to rule out active infection. As she is on immunotherapy, she can be prone for tuberculosis and fungal infections
Next Steps
If the sputum afb and culture is negative, will have to do diagnostic bronchoscopy to rule out infection
