Nothing is a must in modern Medical practice. If you don't like laparoscopic surgery you can bid for open surgery. ERCP is a diagnostic modality which can also be used for removal of stones from bile duct. Again, if you don't like endoscopy you may opt for open surgery. The success rate of medical treatment for these problems is very low. I didn't say "zero success rate" because you may quote some papers which claim high success rate by Medical treatment. I think we should go with what is commonly practiced. There is no point in being "outstanding" in seeking primitive modes of treatment.

Medicine can only delay the surgery. It can't cure. So one's symptomatic then surgery is advised.
