I consulted a doctor and he prescribed 10 mg statin course for 1 month to reduce triglycerides. I am reading on net and everywhere it's written that it needs to be taken life long. So, I am a bit worried of this 1 month course will later lead me to its medication for whole life. Can you please confirm if statin therapy is given for few weeks, just to reduce temporary flare up in cholestrol?

Statin is prescribed to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides you need to control your diet
You need to eat less oily and fatty foods
Please do exercise and walking
lifestyle changes are important to reduce cholesterol
check cholesterol after one month
if it is still high you need to continue the tablet till cholesterol comes back to normal
The duration of station therapy depends upon how high the cholesterol levels were to begin with. There are various precipitation factors like obesity, sedentary life style and alcohol intake. If all these things are taken care of, some people can be off the medicines. But some patients have genetic predisposition of high cholesterol levels. They need a life long medication. So only time will tell which way you goes.
First u need to see the cause of hypertriglyceridemia. First treatment is always lifestyle modifications. Need detail lipid profile to comment about medication
