Dear Practo user, It’s big misconception that spinal anaesthesia leads to chronic back pain , believe me I have practiced as Anesthesiologist and now spine and pain medicine , hence I can tell you from perspective of disease caused as you mentioned and specialist providing treatment for same . For spinal needle to cause pain one has to go to disc ( which never happens ), or pierce through nerve ( that can cause permanent damage to lower legs) , which I don’t think is your case . There can be inflammatory response from muscles and skin by spinal needle which if untreated in acute phase can lead to chronic pain but it’s rare . We also need to mention that neuralgic pain can be caused by even touch of needle to nerves , but you are not having neuralgic pain . Hence putting blame of spinal anaesthesia for cause of back pain is not correct in my view . Still I’d say get yourself checked and evaluated by specialist to find out source of pain as in most of the cases we get degenerative spine changes as culprit but patient remember spinal anaesthesia as source ( spine degeneration have not been documented to cause spine degeneration in any medical scientific research and publication ) .
Next Steps
Consult Spine and pain specialist, Ortho with spine knowledge or neurosurgeon for diagnosis
