Spinal fusion done
My mother P.Nagamani has been diagnosed with L4 L5 spinal stenosis with spondylolisthesis .She tried to manage the condition through consjervative methods but failed.So on 25/08/26 she underwent spinal fusion surgery but since then there is severe pain at incision site and even while sleeping or sitting .Is it ok?Any medications please kindly advise me in this hour of profound gried for me as a son

Since the spinal fusion was performed only 2 days ago, significant pain around the incision can occur during the first few postoperative days and does not by itself indicate that something has gone wrong. However, severe or poorly controlled pain should be discussed with the operating spine surgeon, particularly if the prescribed medicines are not providing adequate relief.
For now, she should continue the postoperative pain medicines exactly as prescribed at discharge. I would not advise adding painkillers or anti-inflammatory medicines on your own; after spinal fusion, some surgeons specifically limit NSAIDs such as ibuprofen/diclofenac because of concerns regarding bone healing.

Please contact the surgeon/hospital promptly if there is increasing rather than gradually improving pain, fever, redness or discharge from the wound, increasing swelling, new numbness or weakness in either leg, inability to walk compared with after surgery, loss of bladder/bowel control, numbness around the groin, severe breathlessness, or chest pain.

At only 48 hours after surgery, the priority is good postoperative analgesia, wound/neurological assessment and mobilization according to the surgeon's protocol. If the pain is described as severe despite the prescribed medication, I would recommend contacting the operating team today rather than waiting for the routine follow-up.

Post surgery there will be pain, it will gradually subside as the wound heals, so no need to worry.
If it is associated with fever or any discharge from surgical site then report to her treating doctor, otherwise your surgeon might have prescribed some discharge medications for pain they are enough.

If you dont have any medications you can take tablet Hifenac-P twice daily after food, tablet pantop 40mg once daily before breakfast for 5 days, these medications we usually give for our post op spine patients

Post op pain on Day 2 of surgery is normal.
Trust the operating surgeon.
If cleared by operating surgeon she needs to be mobilized,which helps in pain reduction also.
Lot of it depends on AGE,BMI,DIABETIC STATUS.
