Hi ! Taking certain fruits can augment pre existing symptoms of sore throat. Drink a glass of warm water as of now. Cough can be because of pre existing disease in the lung. Sometimes small fruit seeds can also get lodged in the airway and lead to persisting cough, in that case the patient has to be taken immediately to the ent surgeon. 
Next Steps
If the cough persists then take the patient to an ENT surgeon for examination of his oral cavity & throat.
