Hello Doctor, I have nominal pitted acne scars on my face. Can I use Tretinoin 0.025 percent or Tretinoin 0.050 percent for clearing the scars. Is the use of derma roller effective? Pls help.

Hello. I am an aesthetic physician.
And i understand your concerns
But to make it more clear for you- Scars are not acne that can be treated with isotret.
Isotret is meant to be taken for active acne issues. And that too in a certain grade of acne.
Scars on the other hand are basically post inflammatory reactions that usually occur post chronic acne conditions and they can’t be treated by oral medications.
Derma roller is very helpful for acne scars as it works on collagen reconstruction which eventually heals the skin and scars.
So yes, you should definitely get a paid consultation and think about derma pen and other treatment modalities.

Pitted scars can be because of many reasons. You need to get certain tests done and a skin opd visit is a must. Dont take Tretinoin without a dermatologist recommendation.
Hi, pitted acne scars are caused by collagen loss and usually don’t respond completely to creams alone. Tretinoin 0.025% can help improve skin texture and stimulate collagen gradually — start with alternate nights and increase as tolerated. Tretinoin 0.05% is stronger and can cause dryness or peeling if not used correctly.
Derma roller (microneedling) is quite effective when done professionally — it boosts collagen and smoothens scars over multiple sessions. Combination therapy (tretinoin + microneedling/PRP) gives best results.

Yes, you can use Tretinoin 0.025% at night to improve scars slowly; start 2–3 times a week, then increase as tolerated. Derma roller (0.5–1 mm) done once in 3–4 weeks by a trained professional also helps. Use sunscreen daily and moisturize well to avoid irritation.
You can try tretinoin either of them, depending on the severity of the scars .you can consider rolling, laser, micro needling carbon laser therapy with an aesthetic dermatologist
