Usually 9 month old babies are just beginning to learn to self regulate themselves to sleep . When a baby falls asleep and moves to next stage of the sleep cycle they may wake up. Usually they themselves will go back to sleep. That is what parents must promote. Once he wakes up after 30min do not immediately go next to him or pat him to sleep. Allow him to try to go back to sleep by himself. Wait for 10 min. Still he has not gone back to sleep then go next to him and Pat him or try to make him sleep. Slowly increase this interval everyday. Today if you wait for 10 min then after two days wait for 20 min and then approach him. He must know that he should try to self soothe and that you will not always put him to sleep. In case even after this he doesn’t fall asleep then we might have to evaluate.
