Skin infection on Penis

Asked for Male, 66 Years

My father is hemiplegic for last 6 years. His whole left side does not work and is bed ridden. We use U-drain in the night so that he can urinate while sleeping. Recently some part on his penis skin has become reddish which is causing itch. Please suggest a remedy.

Hi It is likely it is skin irritation caused by contact with urine. Other possibility is infection or rarely allergy to penile sheath if he is wearing one.

Next Steps

keep the foreskin area clean by washing daily with clean water. You could apply a bland cream to protect the skin from contact with urine. If there is a suspicion of infection then he will need antibiotics like flucloxacillin.
