Trazodone is often prescribed for sleep problems, and while it can sometimes cause prolonged or painful erections (called priapism), this side effect is very rare. Most people take the medicine safely without experiencing it.
Next Steps
If you notice any unusual or painful erection lasting more than 3-4 hours, you should seek immediate medical attention, as it requires prompt treatment. Otherwise, you can continue the medicine as advised, under your doctor's supervision.
Health Tips
Do not stop or avoid the medicine out of fear, but make sure you stay in touch with your treating doctor and report any concerns early. Practicing good sleep hygiene along with medication can further improve sleep quality.

Hi, Trazodone is sometimes prescribed for sleep problems. One rare side effect is priapism (a painful, prolonged erection), but this occurs in less than 1% of people. Your doctor mentioned it to keep you informed, not to alarm you. For most patients, trazodone is well tolerated and effective for sleep.
Next Steps
1. Take the medicine only as prescribed by your doctor. 2. If you ever develop an erection lasting more than 4 hours, seek urgent medical help immediately. 3. If you are very anxious about this side effect, discuss alternative sleep medications or non-medication strategies with your doctor. Your doctor has advised you of what could happen. It’s not that if you take trazodone , you will definitely get painful erections. Just making you aware of the possible side effects. Do take the meds as prescribed, if you face problems do discuss with your psychiatrist and necessary modifications will be made
Health Tips
Do not self medicate/ alter dose by yourself
