Testicles can appear to hang at different heights and look smaller with temperature, stress or muscle contraction; photographs cannot confirm true shrinkage. A persistent change, lump, pain or heaviness needs an examination to assess the testicles, groin and possible hernia/varicocele. Sudden severe pain, swelling, nausea or a high-riding testicle is an emergency.
