Seborrheic dermatitis will occur as long as you have active oil-secreting glands in your scalp, so no, there is no permanent cure for seborrheic dermatitis. However, it can be controlled effectively with medications. Severe dandruff is usually the consequence of the overgrowth of a commensal yeast, which feeds on the sebum produced by your oil glands. Use of dermatologically formulated shampoos, a course of antifungal therapy, regular scalp washing and avoidance of oil application can reduce the dandruff effectively. Even diet can sometimes aggravate the seborrheic dermatitis so a few changes in your food and lifestyle can improve the outcome of treatment. I hope this helps. For any further queries and a detailed prescription, either visit a nearby dermatologist or consult me online via Practo. Thank you.
