Does one lose sleep permanently or have sleep difficulties that are persistent after rtms 30 sessions?
Does rtms cause any harm to the brain or cause sleep issues for ever?
Please guide.
I lost sleep after rtms treatment and if I take sedative antidepressants, I can sleep but without which, sleep doesn't come. Is there any harm to the brain areas due to rtms sessions that don't allow me to sleep or what?
Please suggest. And i do not feel depressed or even anxiety.

Hey, rtms is a non-invasive brain modulation technique, and I do understand that you are worried that after 30 sessions rtms might have destroyed your sleep centre, but it doesn't happen usually, because the brain is stimulated, so it may alter the sleep functioning, but it is very temporary.
Initially, you can take help of medication, later on your sleep cycle will reset.
Next Steps
Do not worry, and please consult your psychiatrist once.

No, rTMS does not cause permanent brain damage or permanent insomnia.
• Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is considered safe and non-neurotoxic.
• It does not damage brain areas or permanently stop natural sleep mechanisms.
• Sleep disturbance can happen temporarily, but persistent lifelong insomnia from rTMS is not known or expected.
In your case:
• If you sleep with sedative antidepressants but not without them, it may be:
• Post-treatment sleep rhythm disturbance
• Psychological conditioning around sleep
• Underlying mild insomnia unrelated to depression
It is very unlikely that rTMS permanently damaged your sleep centers.
Best next steps:
• Review with your psychiatrist
• Gradual taper plan if on sedatives
• Add CBT-I (sleep therapy)
• Maintain strict sleep hygiene
If needed, I can briefly explain why rTMS cannot permanently “switch off” sleep circuits.

No, rTMS does not cause permanent harm or structural damage to the brain. It is a non-invasive procedure designed to modulate brain activity, and there is no clinical evidence that it leads to 'forever' sleep issues or permanent damage to sleep centers.
While insomnia can be a side effect during or shortly after a 30-session course, it is typically temporary.
Next Steps
Since you are not currently feeling depressed or anxious, this is a good sign of the treatment's efficacy on your mood. I recommend discussing a gradual 'sleep hygiene' protocol and a monitored tapering of the sedatives with your treating psychiatrist to help your brain’s natural sleep-wake cycle take over again.
It is seen in studies that rTMS usually improves sleep quality over a period of time and sessions. However there may be temporary issue with sleep pattern while undergoing rTMS. If taking medications is helping with sleep do not worry as the doses will be titrated over period of time.
