Regarding my anxiety  and depression
I have been suffering from crohn's disease since 1yrs taking medicines for that I had anxiety, depression and insomnia so dr had prescribed me PROTHIEDEN 25 mg  one at bed time and I had been continued it for 4 months  from August 2019 to November 2019.and I was ok  then ,but now I am feeling depression and insomnia again. My query is will I continue prothiaden 25 again or any other medicine ? Please reply

Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like prothiaden 25mg worked for you in the past and you may have stopped taking it after you felt better (nov 2019). Symptoms have come back and you’re looking to restart medicine. Logical next step is to consult a well trained psychiatrist to undergo a detailed evaluation. For your reference, in general, rule of thumb is to restart a medicine which has proven effective for you in the past. There a whole arsenal of medicines out there for you to try including SSRI’s, SNRI’s, other TCA’s, etc. In your case, prothiaden would be an ideal choice assuming no past side effects and it was effective in treating your depression/anxiety and insomnia. If 25mg is not effective, good news is that there is room to go up to 225mg a day which is the maximum therapeutic dose per day. Hope that was helpful. All the best!
