Hello. I have reviewed your concerns regarding your persistent weakness.
At 79 years of age, generalized weakness is often multifactorial. While you are seeking a tonic for strength, it is crucial to ensure that the underlying medical conditions and their treatments are perfectly balanced, as they are likely the primary drivers of your fatigue.
1. Thyroid Optimization
The TSH Connection: You mentioned a previous increase in TSH because you weren't taking your medication. Even if you are taking it now, if the dose isn't exactly right, it can cause significant weakness.
Next Step: Ensure your latest TSH levels are within the narrow "target range" for your age group.
2. Medication Review (Antipsychotics & BP)
Side Effects: Some antipsychotic medications can cause sedation, muscle stiffness, or a general feeling of "slowing down," which patients often perceive as weakness.
Blood Pressure: Ensure your blood pressure medication isn't making your BP too low, which can cause dizziness and exhaustion in elderly patients.
3. Nutritional Status & "Tonics"
Instead of a general syrup, elderly patients usually benefit more from targeted supplementation based on blood work:
Protein Intake: Sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss) is a major cause of weakness. Ensure you are consuming enough protein (dal, paneer, eggs, or protein powder).
B12 and Iron: Deficiencies in these are very common at age 79 and are a direct cause of physical weakness.
4. Recommendations
Physical Therapy: Rather than a tonic, a few sessions of "elderly-specific strength exercises" can do more for your ability to perform household tasks than any syrup.
Laboratory Review: Please check your latest Serum Electrolytes (Sodium/Potassium), as imbalances here are a very common, treatable cause of sudden weakness in seniors.
Summary Advice:
Please do not start any over-the-counter tonics without consulting your primary doctor first, as they can sometimes interfere with your BP or antipsychotic medications. Focus on high-protein nutrition and verifying your electrolyte and thyroid balance.
Please take tab neurobion forte one daily for 4 weeks.
Syp maltviron 5ml every morning and evening.
Please share details of your reports , you need to start tablets for thyroid.
It’s important to first identify the exact cause rather than taking tonics directly.
I would suggest a few basic tests Thyroid profile , Vitamin B12 & Vitamin D levels ,CBC.
These will help us understand if the weakness is due to thyroid levels or any deficiency.
Once we have the reports, I can guide you with the right treatment to help improve your energy levels. Share the reports or book a consultation.
A proper evaluation including thyroid profile, anemia workup, and vitamin levels is advised before initiating treatment. You can add protein supplementation ,vit d,vit b12 if low.
As per your current age you can have low hemoglobin which could be the cause of your weakness. I would like to go ahead with advising you some basic investigation and detailed evaluation of your symptoms before prescribing any medications.
Lethargic weakness most probably may be due to Hypothyroidism in your case .
Take thyroid medications properly ealy 1 hour before breakfast avoid Tea
Syp or tonic you may take but for your case its need evaluation if its related to Hypothyroidism or others causes need to be ruled out
